Devotees laud free stay

ANANDPUR SAHIB, November 24 — The Punjab government’s three tent cities erected for the observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s 350th martyrdom anniversary have become the focus of public appreciation, with pilgrims describing the free accommodations as well-managed and reassuring. The camps, set up around Anandpur Sahib, are hosting people arriving from different states and are intended to house visitors at no charge for the duration of the commemorations.

According to officials, the tent clusters were designed to ensure comfort for devotees amid colder nights. Sleeping arrangements include insulated tents, thick blankets and cushioned mattresses. “The idea was to make sure no one feels the harshness of the season,” said an official coordinating the lodging section.

Devotees reported that the facilities were unexpectedly comprehensive, including uninterrupted electricity, lighting within tents, and sanitation units maintained by staff throughout the day. Drinking water dispensers have been installed at several points, and volunteers continue to guide visitors.

Authorities said continuous shuttle transport has been organised to carry pilgrims between the tent sites and the Gurdwara complex. The service, provided at no cost, includes e-rickshaws and buses operating on short intervals. “People should not have to struggle to get around,” a volunteer driver said.

Medical support mechanisms have been integrated into the accommodation zones, including first-aid posts, doctors on duty through the night, and free medicines for routine ailments. Elderly devotees and young children are being prioritised by on-site health workers.

Police forces, private guards and local volunteers are present across the tent cities, with CCTV systems added for surveillance. Night-time visibility has been increased through floodlights, and officers said special safety protocols are in place for women and children.

Pilgrims staying in the camps have described the initiative as thoughtful and humane. Many said they found the arrangement more comfortable than expected. “This shows care, not mere administration,” a devotee commented.

Officials stated that the administration intends to ensure a dignified experience for all attendees through the duration of the commemorative events.
