Patiala, November 4: A light and sound tribute depicting the life and sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji drew an overwhelming response from devotees in Patiala on Tuesday evening as part of the Punjab government’s ongoing observance of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru.

The show, titled ‘Hind Di Chadar’, portrayed the Guru’s steadfast stand for truth and justice through powerful visuals, music, and narration. Scenes of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom — alongside Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Dayala Ji — highlighted his defence of human dignity and freedom of belief 350 years ago in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk.

The presentation opened with the recitation of traditional Vaaras by the Dhadi Jatha of Sukhdev Singh Booh, setting the tone for the evening. The crowd, which included devotees of all ages, responded with emotional chants and Jaikaras as the story unfolded on the open-air stage.

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who attended the event, said the government intended to mark the occasion “not merely as a celebration, but as an act of remembrance and gratitude.” “Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom is a lesson in courage and universal respect,” he said. “This initiative is meant to ensure that the message of the Guru reaches every home and inspires younger generations.”

The minister said the program was part of a larger series of events planned across the state. Major commemorations are scheduled at Sri Anandpur Sahib from November 23 to 25. He also said Nagar Kirtans would be taken out from different places, including one from Talwandi Sabo to Patiala on November 21, which will receive an official ‘Guard of Honour’ at district stops — a first-of-its-kind initiative.

Attendees described the show as “visually stunning” and “emotionally profound.” “It beautifully captured Guru Sahib’s vision of peace and global brotherhood,” said one devotee.

The event was attended by MLAs Ajitpal Singh Kohli, Neena Mittal, and Chetan Singh Jauramajra, senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav and SSP Varun Sharma, and hundreds of residents from across the district.
