SHIMLA , Dec 19— In a move aimed at regulating official communication, the Himachal Pradesh Police has issued fresh instructions prohibiting officers below the rank of Superintendent of Police from speaking to the media without authorisation.
According to a circular issued by the Director General of Police, matters related to crime, investigations, policing policies and law and order can now be addressed publicly only by district SPs or Range DIGs, and only after approval from Police Headquarters.
The order explicitly restricts SDPOs, SHOs and other junior officers from issuing statements or comments to the media, including on social media platforms. “No officer below the rank of SP shall give interviews, briefings or reactions on official matters unless specifically authorised in writing,” the circular said.
Supervisory officers have been directed to enforce the instructions strictly across the force. The police leadership has also made it clear that any deviation from the guidelines will invite disciplinary proceedings.
“Any violation of these directions will be taken seriously,” the order said, adding that action may be initiated under applicable service rules and police laws.
