Zirakpur, March 31 – Four individuals, including a couple, allegedly duped a Dhakoli resident of ₹35.11 lakh by luring him with promises of lucrative returns in a fake import business, police said.

The victim, Ajit Singh, who runs a transportation business, alleged that Anil Kumar and his wife, who operate a boutique in Dhakoli, convinced him to invest in their machinery and spare parts import venture. “They promised a minimum of 20% annual return on investment,” Ajit said in his complaint.

He added that the couple introduced him to Happy from Sonepat, claiming he was an expert in the field. “I was persuaded to invest ₹25 lakh with assurances of a 50% return. Later, they brought in Balram from Sirsa, who offered me a partnership and a managerial role in their firm. Trusting them, I invested more money, only to find out that no such firm existed,” he stated.

A case under sections related to cheating and criminal breach of trust has been registered at the Sector 20 police station. Police are investigating the matter.
