JALAUN, April 16 — A government doctor posted at the Central Health Centre in Kuthaund has been transferred and placed under investigation after a video allegedly showed him encouraging a young boy to smoke a cigarette, officials said Wednesday.
The incident, believed to have occurred in March, drew public outrage after the video surfaced on social media. In the footage, Dr. Suresh Chandra is seen asking a boy—estimated to be around five years old—to place a cigarette in his mouth. The doctor then lights it and repeatedly prompts the child to take a puff.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Narendra Dev Sharma confirmed that a probe was initiated on March 28. “Dr. Chandra has been transferred to the district headquarters. A detailed inquiry is being carried out under the supervision of Additional CMO Dr. S.D. Chaudhary,” Sharma said.
“This kind of incident will not be tolerated in the district. We have issued strict instructions to prevent such occurrences in the future,” he added.
Officials stated that the final report would be submitted to the state government, and appropriate action would follow based on the findings.
