MALOUT, June 3: In a continuing offensive against narcotics under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, authorities on Tuesday demolished three illegally built houses belonging to alleged drug peddlers in Jhorar village, around 13 km from Malout.
The action was carried out jointly by the district administration and police, with a heavy presence of law enforcement at the site, including Muktsar SSP Akhil Chaudhary and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Surinder Singh Dhillon.
“These structures were built using proceeds from drug trafficking. All three women were repeat offenders with multiple cases under the NDPS Act. The BDPO had formally requested police support for demolition,” SSP Chaudhary said.
The accused women — identified as Rani (facing 8 cases), Charanjit Kaur (6 cases), and Satto (5 cases) — were described by officials as hardened traffickers with long histories of involvement in the narcotics trade.
Jhorar village has gained notoriety in the region for its deep entanglement with drug-related crime. According to residents, over 50 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered in the village in the last five years alone.
This marks the third such demolition in the district this year. A house in Madrassa village was razed on March 12, followed by two structures on the outskirts of Gidderbaha on May 8, as part of the administration’s strategy to strike at the economic base of drug traffickers.
