CHANDIGARH, July 4: Police have arrested a 25-year-old e-rickshaw driver for robbing a couple of ₹5,000 in cash near Faidan light point in Sector 48 on the night of July 1.
The accused, Ritik Lolu, a resident of Phase 1, Ram Darbar, was apprehended on July 3. Police said he is a Class 8 dropout and has a prior criminal record.
According to the complaint lodged at Sector 31 police station, victim Ankit Raghuvanshi, 35, was returning home to Sector 48-B from Kaithal with his wife, Pooja. Around 10:50 pm, the couple hired an e-rickshaw from Tribune Chowk.
Upon reaching Faidan light point, the couple deboarded. While Pooja was about to pay the fare, Ritik allegedly snatched Ankit’s wallet from his back pocket. An accomplice seated in the vehicle then shouted, “Job is done, run!” and both fled the spot in the e-rickshaw.
The wallet contained ₹5,000 in cash, a PAN card, Aadhaar card, and several bank cards.
Police tracked and arrested Ritik two days later and seized the e-rickshaw used in the robbery. The stolen wallet, cash, and documents were also recovered.
