Jalandhar, Feb 13: Enforcement Directorate (ED) has transferred its top official in Jalandhar, Additional Director Ravi Tewari, to Chennai. The move comes immediately after the central agency issued summons to former Punjab Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Capt Amarinder Singh and his son, Raninder Singh, regarding an investigation into alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations.
Tewari, a 2009-batch IRS officer who had been heading the Jalandhar office since September 2023, has been replaced by Additional Director Dinesh Pachauri. The timing of the transfer has sparked discussions in political circles, as it coincides directly with the agency’s intensified action against the former Chief Minister’s family.
Both Capt Amarinder and Raninder Singh were scheduled to appear before the agency this week but failed to do so. Family sources mentioned that the former Chief Minister is currently recovering from knee surgery at a hospital in Mohali. The probe is reportedly linked to long-standing inquiries regarding the Jacaranda Trust and the alleged movement of funds to offshore accounts.
The sudden summons to a member of the BJP National Executive Committee surprised many, given Amarinder’s recent public statements favoring a BJP-SAD alliance. “We have absolute faith in the rule of law,” Raninder Singh mentioned in a statement on X, adding that they intend to cooperate fully with investigators to ensure justice prevails.
