Encroachments on MC Land Must Go: Commissioner Sets November 15 Deadline

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Oct 30: Municipal Corporation (MC) commissioner Amit Kumar has directed all officers, including those up to the rank of chief engineer, to ensure the complete removal of encroachments from civic body land across Chandigarh, reiterating that the administration will maintain a zero-tolerance stance.

Chairing a review meeting on Wednesday, the commissioner said every officer must submit a certificate confirming the removal of encroachments by November 15, 2025. “Subsequently, such certifications must be furnished on the 15th of every month without fail,” he instructed.

Kumar further ordered that any temporary encroachment identified on MC land be cleared within seven days, while cases of permanent occupation must be reported immediately to higher authorities for removal after due approval.

He also assigned area JE, SDE, and XEN (Roads) to inspect Sector 25 and Janta Colony, mapping out all MC-owned land and identifying instances of encroachment. The officers have been asked to draft an action plan for fencing these parcels and to propose potential uses to prevent future violations.

The commissioner stressed strict accountability and warned of action against officers who fail to meet the deadline. “The municipal corporation is committed to protecting public land and ensuring its transparent and planned use for the welfare of citizens,” Kumar noted.
