Engine fire halts IndiGo flight takeoff

by TheReportingTimes

AHMEDABAD, July 23 — An IndiGo flight bound for Diu was forced to abort takeoff on Tuesday morning after one of its engines caught fire during the takeoff roll at Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft, carrying 60 passengers, was safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Flight 6E 7966, an ATR 76, was scheduled to depart at 11 a.m. when the pilot issued a “Mayday” call to air traffic control upon detecting the engine fire. The plane was immediately brought to a halt and returned to the bay.

“A technical snag indication was noticed just before takeoff,” said an IndiGo spokesperson. “Following standard operating procedures, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations.”

The airline also issued an apology for the disruption. “We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and are making all efforts to minimize it by offering them refreshments, rebooking on the next available flight, or a full refund as per their preference,” the statement added.

The incident follows another technical snag reported on Monday, when an IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore encountered a malfunction just before landing. That aircraft landed safely and is also undergoing inspection.

Authorities have not confirmed the cause of Tuesday’s engine fire, but aviation safety procedures ensured a quick response and safe evacuation.
