Faridkot, Feb 2: The Faridkot police have initiated investigations into two separate extortion cases after residents reported receiving death threats from individuals claiming to be associated with the Rohit Godara gang. The callers allegedly utilized international phone numbers to demand money, threatening the victims and their families with dire consequences if they failed to comply.
Authorities have registered both cases under Section 308(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as they work to trace the origin of the calls. The first victim, a driver with the Faridkot Municipal Council, was reportedly targeted by a caller from abroad. Law enforcement officials noted that the accused in this instance has been identified as Chhaibar Singh, a resident of village Kaniawali in Muktsar district.
A resident of the Green Avenue locality filed the second complaint after receiving a similar demand for money. This victim told investigators that the caller also claimed a connection to the same notorious gang.
“The local police have registered two separate cases following reports of extortion threats,” a department spokesperson mentioned. Detectives are currently looking into whether the two incidents are part of a coordinated effort, as the messaging and gang affiliation remained consistent across both reports.
