TALWANDI SABO, May 13 – Davinder Singh Sran, a prominent farmer leader and former Punjab assembly candidate, succumbed to injuries on Monday, two days after he was allegedly assaulted by his son and two accomplices in a dispute over farmland.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Snehi Batta said Sran had longstanding tensions with his son, Amninder Singh.

The fatal attack occurred on May 10 in Gurusar Jaga village, where Sran was reportedly assaulted by Amninder, along with Tarlok Singh and Hemli Singh, both residents of Bhagi Wander.

“Amninder allegedly struck his father on the head with a spade,” said DSP Batta. “He was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital, where he died during treatment.”

A murder case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the three accused, based on a complaint lodged by Sran’s wife, Sukhwinder Kaur.

Police said search operations are underway to apprehend Amninder and his alleged accomplices.

Sran, a native of Gurusar Jaga village, had contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections from Talwandi Sabo on a farmers’ platform. His death has shocked the local farming community, where he was known for his advocacy on agricultural issues.
