Gurdaspur, Feb 22: A high-level investigation is underway in Gurdaspur after two policemen were discovered dead with gunshot injuries near the International Border on Sunday. The incident, which occurred in the Adhian village area of the Dorangla sector, claimed the lives of ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar.
Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya and other ranking officers rushed to the site to oversee the preliminary probe. Officials declared that while the loss of life is confirmed, the specific cause of the shooting is currently subject to conflicting reports. One line of inquiry explores whether the incident was the result of a personal altercation, while another focuses on potential engagement with drug smugglers operating in the border belt.
The Dorangla sector is a known hotspot for state and non-state actors attempting to push contraband into Punjab via drones. Security experts noted that the area is exceptionally vulnerable to “carriers” who manage heroin consignments dropped from across the border. A police representative asserted that the proximity of the bodies to the border fence necessitates a careful look into whether a third party was involved in the firing.
No official statement confirming the exact narrative has been released as of Sunday evening. Authorities maintained that they are working in coordination with the Border Security Force to determine if any drone activity or illegal movement was recorded during the time of the incident. The area has been cordoned off, and patrolling has been intensified to ensure the security of the sensitive border outpost.
