Jhansi, Jan 19: A retired railway employee is the subject of a police search after he allegedly murdered his live-in partner and burned her remains in a trunk over several days. The crime, which reportedly occurred in the Sipri Bazar area, was uncovered when the suspect attempted to relocate the trunk containing bone fragments and ash.

Police identified the victim as 35-year-old Preeti Parihar, who had been in a relationship with the accused, Ram Singh Parihar. Preliminary findings suggest that the murder was triggered by repeated demands for large sums of money by the victim, who had already received several lakhs from the suspect.

“Parihar allegedly wrapped the body in tarpaulin and set it on fire inside a large blue metal trunk,” an investigating officer said. He mentioned that once the body was reduced to ashes, the suspect bagged the remains and threw them into a river, though forensic evidence remained inside the box.

The plot was foiled when a loader driver grew suspicious while transporting the heavy trunk to another property owned by Parihar. Upon being alerted, police intercepted the shipment and discovered the gruesome contents.

“The accused has two wives living in different parts of the city, while the victim lived separately,” authorities noted. They said that while some remains were dumped, the charred fragments left in the trunk provided enough evidence to initiate a formal murder investigation.
