Amritsar, Jan 7: A case has been registered against Punjabi singer Rami Randhawa for allegedly uploading photographs of firearms on his social media account, the Amritsar (Rural) police said.
The singer, whose real name is Ramandeep Singh, came under police scrutiny after authorities noticed images of weapons posted on Facebook. The Ajnala police subsequently registered an FIR under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with provisions of the Arms Act.
ASI Kanwaljit Singh said the police acted after receiving specific inputs. “We received information about objectionable content involving arms being shared on social media. Verification confirmed the post, after which legal action was initiated,” he said.
According to the police, displaying firearms on social media platforms amounts to a violation of law. Officials said they are now verifying whether the accused holds a valid licence and are also tracing the source of the weapons shown in the photographs.
Further investigation in the matter is ongoing, police added.
