FIR Over Doctored Video on Bajwa’s Remarks Amid Majithia Case

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 11 —The Chandigarh Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified social media handler of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following a complaint from Punjab Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa, who alleged that an edited video circulated by AAP distorted his original remarks and sought to damage his reputation.

The FIR, filed under Sections 336(4), 356, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, was based on Bajwa’s formal complaint submitted at Sector 3 Police Station. The FIR does not name AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal or Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, despite Bajwa’s request to include them and other party leaders.

Bajwa accused former Delhi CM Kejriwal, CM Mann, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, and unnamed associates of conspiring to manipulate and distribute a doctored video, which he claims was intended to discredit him and the Congress party.

The video in question was originally posted by Bajwa on June 25, 2025, in which he criticised the Punjab Vigilance Bureau’s handling of a house search involving MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia, following the arrest of her husband, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia. According to Bajwa, the edited version deliberately removed references to Ganieve Kaur, making it appear as though he was defending Bikram Majithia, who remains in custody.

“The intention behind sharing the edited clip was clearly malicious — to mislead the public and shift focus away from the unlawful conduct of Vigilance Bureau officers during the search of a woman MLA’s private residence,” Bajwa wrote in his complaint.

He submitted a pen drive containing both the original and edited versions of the video to police, requesting action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. “This is a politically motivated attempt to tarnish my image and deflect public attention from state-sponsored overreach,” Bajwa added.

Though the police have confirmed the FIR, the investigation is still in its early stages. Meanwhile, AAP has not issued an official response to the allegations.
