PANIPAT, Aug. 11 — A massive fire gutted a handloom manufacturing unit in Sector 29 Part-2 early Monday morning, destroying goods, machinery, and raw materials at the MRR Private Limited factory.
The blaze erupted around 4 a.m. at the single-storey unit, which produces export-quality bath mats and rugs. Factory owner Ramesh Verma, who is also president of the Handloom Exports Manufacturer Association, said the plant had been closed after the Sunday morning shift.
A security guard on duty spotted the flames and alerted Verma and the fire brigade. Due to the intensity of the fire, 10 fire tenders from Panipat and Samalkha were deployed. Firefighters fought the blaze for more than four hours before bringing it under control.
“All the manufactured goods, including rugs, bath mats, machinery, and yarn, were destroyed in the fire,” said Amit Kumar, a leading fireman at the site.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are investigating.
