Rajpura, Feb 13: The Punjab Government has approved the establishment of the state’s first specialized anti-gangster task force police station in Rajpura, Patiala. Unlike traditional stations with limited local boundaries, this new facility will hold jurisdiction across the entire state to streamline coordinated strikes against organized crime.
A Gazette notification issued recently confirmed that the station is designed to act as a central command for high-stakes operations. The decision follows a massive offensive by the Punjab Police under “Operation Prahar,” which has already completed two phases of intense statewide raids targeting criminal support systems.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, who has termed 2026 the “Year Against Gangsters,” noted that the department’s focus is on dismantling the entire criminal ecosystem. He mentioned that the drive will target not just shooters, but also financiers and those providing safe houses or weapons.
“Our goal is to ensure a safer environment by neutralizing the networks that sustain these gangs,” the DGP said while discussing the 2026 roadmap. The police have also introduced an Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell alongside a dedicated anonymous helpline (93946-93946) to gather public intelligence.
