Chandigarh, Sept. 12 — Security forces have arrested five people and seized nearly 4.2 kilograms of heroin in a series of operations across Punjab’s border districts of Ferozepur, Amritsar and Tarn Taran, the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier said on Thursday.

According to officials, the operations were carried out jointly by BSF troops and the Amritsar police special cell following intelligence inputs. In one operation near Jagdev Khurd village, personnel apprehended a suspected smuggler from Ballarwal village and recovered three packets of heroin weighing 1.433 kg, along with a motorcycle and mobile phone. The man was later handed over to the police for further investigation.

In a separate overnight operation in Ferozepur’s Pala Megha area, troops recovered three more packets of heroin weighing 1.658 kg. In Amritsar district, drone activity was detected at multiple locations, and a packet of heroin weighing 578 grams was found near Mahawa village. Another intrusion in Tarn Taran’s Khemkaran sector led to the arrest of a suspected smuggler, who was also handed over to the police.

At Atalgarh village in Amritsar, BSF personnel intercepted three men and recovered a packet of heroin weighing 553 grams. They, too, were handed over to police authorities.

“The recoveries demonstrate our commitment to secure the nation’s frontiers and foil the designs of narco-smugglers,” the BSF Punjab Frontier spokesperson said in a statement.
