Five Held in Tricity Heroin Bust

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, April 17 — The arrest of a local drug peddler has helped the Chandigarh Police unravel a wider heroin trafficking network operating across the tricity, with five accused, including two women, now in custody.

The crackdown began on April 13, when the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) nabbed Rajat of Dadumajra with 15.36 gm heroin and five crank balls — a street name for methamphetamine. His interrogation led to the arrest of Sangeeta, 45, of Bapu Dham Colony, from whom police recovered 21.90 gm heroin.

Based on her disclosures, police arrested Ajay, 28, of Ludhiana, with 4.38 gm heroin and ₹45,000 in drug proceeds. Further investigation led to the arrest of Navneet Kaur, 28, of Sector 70, Mohali, and Balkar Singh, 42, of Fazilka. Together, they were found with 35.17 gm heroin.

Police said Rajat procured heroin from Amritsar and Ferozepur while Ajay sourced supplies from Ludhiana. Sangeeta helped distribute the drugs locally. Meanwhile, Navneet, with the help of Balkar, operated from Jalalabad and Fazilka, sending consignments across the tricity.

All five accused have been produced in court and remanded to police custody.
