Shimla, July 17 — Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses amounting to ₹883.15 crore so far this monsoon season as torrential rains continue to wreak havoc across the state. According to the Revenue Department, 64 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, including flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides since the onset of the monsoon.

As per official data, the state has recorded 32 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 18 landslides, with damage reported across nearly every district. Infrastructure remains badly hit, with 202 roads still closed, including 140 in Mandi, 28 in Sirmaur, 21 in Kullu, 10 in Solan, and 3 in Una.

Power and water supply systems have also been severely affected. Forty-seven distribution transformers are out of service, including 41 in Mandi, four in Chamba, and two in Kullu, along with 137 disrupted water supply schemes, primarily in Mandi (119) and Kangra (18).

Meanwhile, the state’s Meteorological Department has forecast continuing rain over the next five days. A yellow weather warning remains in place for several districts until July 20, followed by an orange warning for July 21 and 22, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

“Light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of the state till July 20,” a Met official said. “Heavier spells are likely on July 21 and 22. During this period, maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 2°C to 3°C, while minimum temperatures will stay near normal.”

Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone and low-lying areas, as the state continues to battle the impact of intense and prolonged rainfall.
