Mohali, Dec. 23 — With a focus on youth participation and talent identification, the Gatka Association District SAS Nagar will organize its second district Gatka tournament on Dec. 25 near Gurdwara Nanak Darbar in Sector 91.
The competition is being conducted under the aegis of the Gatka Association of Punjab and is affiliated with the National Gatka Association of India. Teams from across the district are expected to take part.

Phool Raj Singh, chairman of the Directorate of International Affairs of the World Gatka Federation, said the tournament is designed to strengthen the sport’s foundation at the district level.
“Nearly 10 teams will participate, showcasing traditional Gatka techniques along with competitive events,” Singh said. “Our aim is to promote Gatka as a regulated sport that meets national standards.”
Organizers said district tournaments are a crucial stepping stone for players aspiring to compete at higher levels.
“Such events encourage young people to take up Gatka and give us an opportunity to groom players for state and national championships,” said Harsimran Singh and Sherry Singh, coordinators of the Gatka Association of Punjab.
They added that the competition is expected to attract audiences from surrounding areas, helping expand awareness and interest in Gatka beyond rural settings and into urban Punjab.
