Varkala, November 3 — A quiet evening turned distressing for German musician Lena Maier when she was allegedly followed by a group of unidentified men near the scenic Varkala Helipad on November 1.
The incident, which unfolded around 6.45 pm, prompted Maier to alert German authorities in Thiruvananthapuram. The Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany later lodged a formal complaint with the District Police Chief, leading to a case being registered at the Varkala police station on Sunday.
Police said the case has been booked under Sections 189(2), 190, and 78(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), dealing with unlawful assembly, common object liability, and stalking.
“We suspect the accused could be from another state. CCTV footage from the area is under review,” a police officer involved in the probe said.
Officials said teams have been deployed to identify and trace those involved. The case has also drawn attention to safety concerns for foreign visitors in Kerala’s popular coastal destinations, often frequented by international tourists and artists.
