Amritsar/Chandigarh, December 30, 2024: Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh urged the central government to reconsider its “stubborn attitude” and open a dialogue with the farmers.
Punjab experienced a statewide shutdown today, sparked by farmers protesting at the Khanauri border over their demands from the central government, with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal observing a hunger strike.
The shutdown significantly impacted markets, railway stations, bus stands, and both public and private institutions across the state.
Reports indicate that the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee supported the shutdown by closing all its institutions.
Giani Raghbir Singh highlighted the growing frustration among farmers, with the hunger strike of Dallewal emphasizing the central government’s refusal to engage in constructive dialogue. He pointed out that the government’s reluctance to negotiate had forced farmers to take their protests to Delhi.
