What did Agarkar say on ignoring Shreyas?
When Agarkar was asked about Shreyas Iyer, he said- ‘Shreyas has done well in the ODI series. He has also impressed in domestic cricket but there is no place for him in Test cricket right now.’ Currently Shreyas is playing in the IPL and is leading Punjab Kings. His team has reached the playoffs
Karun scored runs for India at an average of 62
Karun’s comeback is one of the most tremendous comebacks in cricket. In six Test matches for India, he scored 374 runs at an average of 62.33. This includes a triple century. During this, his scores in seven innings have been 4, 13, 303*, 26, 0, 23 and 5 runs. In first-class cricket, Karun has scored 8211 runs at an impressive average of 49.16. These include 23 centuries and 36 half-centuries. Despite the triple century, he was sidelined.
He was part of the team that toured England in 2018, but he never got a chance to play in that series. He last played for India in February 2017. India then faced Australia in a Test in Dharamsala. That is, if Karun gets a chance to play, it will be after eight years that he will play a match for India in the red ball format, but his comeback has happened after seven years.
Sarfaraz Khan did not get preference?
Agarkar said about Karun Nair- ‘Karun has scored a lot of runs in domestic matches, has played a little Test cricket, has played a little county cricket. With Virat not being there, obviously we lack a bit of experience. We felt that his experience could be useful.’ During this, Agarkar also talked about Sarfaraz Khan. He further said- ‘Sometimes you have to take good decisions. Sarfaraz, I know he scored a century in the first Test (against New Zealand) and then could not score runs. Sometimes the decisions taken by the team management are important.
