Govt caps fares, orders IndiGo to return baggage within 48 hours

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, December 6 — Following continued disruptions by IndiGo, the Civil Aviation Ministry on Saturday imposed airfare caps on affected routes and instructed the airline to return baggage separated from passengers within 48 hours.

“An official directive has been issued to all airlines mandating strict adherence to the fare caps that have now been prescribed,” the ministry said. The limits will remain in place until flight operations stabilise.

IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, cancelled more than 1,000 flights over five days, inconveniencing thousands of travellers. The ministry warned that any delay or non-compliance in processing refunds or delivering baggage will invite immediate regulatory action.

Dedicated support cells are being set up by IndiGo to ensure that passengers receive refunds and alternative travel arrangements without repeated follow-ups, the ministry said.
