Group of women rob passenger after drugging her on Ludhiana-Garhshankar bus

Ludhiana, November 8 — What began as a routine bus journey turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 48-year-old woman who was allegedly rendered unconscious and robbed of her gold bangles by a group of unidentified women near the Jalandhar bypass.

The victim, Minakshi, a resident of Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district, told police that she had been visiting her parental home in Basti Jodhewal and was waiting at the Jalandhar Bypass bus stop around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday when five to six women began conversing with her.

As a Punjab Roadways bus to Garhshankar arrived, Minakshi boarded it, unaware that the same women had followed her. Once inside, they allegedly surrounded her near the entrance, blocking her path. During the scuffle, one of them reportedly jabbed her with a sharp object on the shoulder, causing her to feel dizzy and weak.

“When I regained my senses after reaching Garhshankar, I realized my bangles were missing,” Minakshi said in her statement. The stolen ornaments, according to the complaint, weighed around 40 grams.

ASI Harmesh Lal, the investigating officer, said the suspects fled the bus midway after committing the crime. “We are verifying CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish their identities,” he said.

Minakshi underwent a medical examination at the Garhshankar Civil Hospital before filing her complaint. A case has been registered at Salem Tabri police station under Sections 115(2), 304, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said investigations were underway and efforts were being made to trace the accused.
