Chandigarh, Jan 4 — Following an accident involving the Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi Express (Train No. 12006) at Chandigarh Railway Station on Sunday, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case of attempt to murder against the train’s loco pilot.
The accident occurred around 7 am as passengers were boarding. According to officials, the train moved forward without prior clearance, causing many commuters to fall. “Several passengers, including elderly and women, were injured when the train started suddenly. We have registered a case and the investigation is ongoing,” a GRP spokesperson said.
Preliminary reports suggest that between 20 and 40 passengers suffered injuries. Passengers also shared their complaints on social media platforms and X, reporting that the train had been stopping and starting in a hazardous manner, which could have resulted in serious casualties.
Railway authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. “We are reviewing the circumstances that led to the train moving prematurely and are taking corrective measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” said a railway official.
