Gun Smuggling Racket Busted in Amritsar, 8 Foreign Pistols Seized

AMRITSAR (RURAL) June 1— The Special Cell of Amritsar Rural Police has busted an international weapons smuggling racket with the arrest of three traffickers and seizure of eight foreign-made pistols. The accused were allegedly in contact with a Pakistan-based arms smuggler identified as Rana.

Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh said the arrested individuals — Fatehbir Singh alias Gandhi, Jagroop Singh alias Lalli, and Ranjit Singh alias Kaka, all residents of Vaniake village in Lopoke area — were intercepted at a checkpoint on Brar-Kohala link road based on a tip-off.

Recovered from their possession were:

  • Three Glock Gen 43 (9mm) pistols
  • One Glock 26 Gen (9mm) pistol
  • One PX5 .30 bore pistol
  • One Zigana pistol
  • One .30 bore pistol
  • Ten live .30 bore cartridges
  • A motorcycle and three mobile phones

“After initial questioning at the spot, the men were apprehended and the sophisticated weapons were seized,” SSP Maninder Singh said.

Investigations revealed the accused were in touch with a local suspect named Dugh of Manawala and had links with Pakistan-based arms suppliers. A case under the Arms Act has been registered and further probe is underway.
