Gunmen kill Patto Hira Singh Sarpanch

Opposition leaders seek inquiry amid allegations

by TheReportingTimes

Moga, March 7: Four armed men killed a local sarpanch in a brazen daylight attack in the Baghapurana market on Friday, leading to a heavy police presence in the Moga district. The victim, identified as Harpinder Singh Happy, was a resident and leader of Patto Hira Singh village.

The attack occurred in the heart of the marketplace, where the gunmen fired multiple shots at Happy before fleeing. The sudden violence caused a chaotic scene among shoppers and shopkeepers. Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby Civil Hospital, but he did not survive the injuries sustained in the assault.

“Preliminary investigation suggests the killing appeared to be the result of personal enmity,” declared Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Gandhi. He noted that the police have already mobilized teams to track the perpetrators and are examining digital evidence from the scene.

Forensic teams spent the afternoon collecting shells and other physical evidence from the cordoned-off site. Government officials confirmed that the body has been moved for a post-mortem examination as part of the formal legal process.

The case has drawn significant attention due to a viral video in which a woman asserted that the murder was planned by a political figure. Seizing on the claim, opposition leaders maintained that the government must provide a transparent investigation. Both Bikram Singh Majithia and Sukhpal Singh Khaira declared on social media that if the accusations hold weight, immediate and strict action is required.

SSP Gandhi asserted that the investigation remains ongoing and that all claims related to the case are being thoroughly verified by the district police.
