Dabwali, 6 Aug — Gunshots were allegedly fired at a statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Haryana’s Dabwali town, triggering widespread outrage and a grieving plea from his mother, Charan Kaur, who said the attack had reopened deep emotional wounds.
“This is a wound to my soul. Even after his death, his enemies are not letting him be in peace,” Kaur wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday. “My son was not just a singer—he was a movement. And that movement will live on.”
The incident has sparked fears of further violence after a video reportedly surfaced showing an unidentified man shooting at the statue, accompanied by a warning that Moosewala’s supporters would be targeted next. The clip, allegedly sent to JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala from an international number, is now under police scrutiny.
Dabwali City Police Station SHO Anil Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered in Sirsa district and an investigation is ongoing. “We are still verifying which statue was shown in the video,” he told PTI.
The statue, installed by Chautala last year to honour Moosewala’s legacy, had become a local landmark and tribute to the late artist’s widespread influence, especially among youth.
Kaur, in her post written in Punjabi, expressed frustration that even after her son’s murder in May 2022, those behind the violence continue to attempt to erase his legacy. “One day, the guilty will be punished. Our silence is not our defeat,” she added.
Sidhu Moosewala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot dead by gangsters in Punjab’s Mansa district. His assassination shocked the nation, prompting vigils and protests across the country.
Police are yet to determine whether the shooting was symbolic or a fresh threat, but officials have assured that the matter is being taken seriously.
