NEW DELHI, Dec. 10 — Rajya Sabha member Rajinder Gupta has been inducted into the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development, a body tasked with reviewing legislation and government programmes across workforce and manufacturing sectors.
Gupta, a prominent industrialist and the founder of the Trident Group, has long been regarded as a leading voice on trade, manufacturing processes and employment generation. “I am honoured by the nomination and hope to contribute constructively to the committee’s work,” he said.
His inclusion comes as India’s textile industry confronts slowing exports and increased tariff pressure from the US market. Industry bodies have also been urging the Centre to deepen skilling frameworks to prepare workers for changing production technologies.
Parliamentary sources said Gupta’s experience in navigating global markets and large-scale manufacturing could help shape recommendations aimed at boosting competitiveness and strengthening labour capabilities.
