Haryana Assembly Session Extended, Will Conclude on Aug. 27

CHANDIGARH, Aug. 22 — The Haryana Vidhan Sabha’s monsoon session has been extended by a day and will now conclude on August 27 instead of August 26, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) decided Thursday.

Initially, the government had proposed a three-day session. But the Congress had signalled that it would press for more days when the BAC met.

Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij told reporters after the meeting that the House will sit from August 22 to 27. “The government is ready to respond to every point raised by the Opposition in the Assembly,” he said.

Vij noted that representatives of all parties attended the BAC meeting and agreed to extend proceedings by one day.

When asked about the absence of the Leader of Opposition, Vij criticised the Congress. “This is due to the Congress party’s inability to take decisions, the refusal of its members to accept any leader, and the lack of authority within the party,” he remarked.

Vij also addressed questions on rail connectivity between Ambala Cantt and Chandigarh. He said he had written to the Railway Minister following public demand for a new passenger train, and a feasibility study has now been assured.
