State to provide up to Rs 96,000 annually to dependents of armed forces and paramilitary martyrs

Chandigarh, Jan 30: Children of personnel from the armed forces and paramilitary units who lost their lives in the line of duty will now receive monthly scholarships from the Haryana government. The newly notified policy aims to facilitate the academic journeys of these students, covering expenses from Class VI up to the completion of postgraduate degrees.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Sainik and Ardh Sainik Welfare Department, Vijayendra Kumar, notified the scheme which categorizes financial aid by educational milestones. According to the department, middle and high school students will be granted Rs 5,000 per month. This figure rises to Rs 6,000 for undergraduates and reaches Rs 8,000 for those enrolled in advanced degree programs.

The scope of the policy is broad, covering deaths occurring under various circumstances that demand exceptional bravery. Beyond direct combat, the scholarship applies to casualties resulting from air crashes, cardiac arrests in operational zones, and natural disasters encountered during rescue missions.

The government clarified that the primary intent is to ensure that the education of a martyr’s children is never hindered by financial constraints. “In case the employee’s address at the time of joining service was temporary due to posting of transferable Central Government employees, the domicile status would be decided on the basis of his father’s permanent home address,” the notification said.

Eligibility is strictly tied to the personnel being a Haryana domicile when they first joined the service. The administration noted that the aid is admissible to all eligible children, even if the family already has members drawing a salary from the state or central government.

The scheme extends its reach to a wide array of security forces. Eligible organizations include the Assam Rifles, National Security Guard, and Sashastra Seema Bal, alongside the traditional wings of the Indian military. By including the CAPFs, the state government seeks to provide a comprehensive safety net for the families of all those who serve the nation’s security interests.
