CHANDIGARH, Aug 13 — Haryana has registered at least 120 FIRs this year against illegal abortion practices, including unlawful sale of medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kits, additional chief secretary (health) Sudhir Rajpal said on Tuesday.
He directed officials to take strict punitive action, with special focus on reverse tracking of all abortions beyond 12 weeks — especially involving women who already have one or more daughters.
Of the total cases, challans have been filed in 39, while 47 remain under investigation. Rajpal instructed chief medical officers to work closely with police and receive full legal support to ensure convictions.
He also told police to coordinate during raids and dismantle entire networks engaged in sex determination and illegal abortions. No nodal officer for PNDT in any district will be transferred without the permission of the director general of health services, who will also appoint them.
