KURUKSHETRA, 10 Sept — Haryana has rushed financial and material assistance to flood-affected states, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said on Wednesday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the impacted areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and announced a total aid of Rs 3,100 crore for the two states.

Speaking to reporters at Pipli Grain Market in Kurukshetra, Saini said Haryana has immediately sent Rs 5 crore each to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. “The people of Punjab, Himachal, Jammu, and Kashmir are affected by the floods. With the help of citizens, social organizations, and Haryana committees, relief materials are being sent to these areas,” he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister flagged off 20 trucks carrying pulses, rice, water, juice, pickles, medical kits, mosquito nets, tarpaulins, green fodder for animals, and other daily essentials. These trucks have been dispatched to various districts in Punjab.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the state government’s efforts to provide compensation to affected citizens and farmers. An e-compensation portal has been launched for registration of losses. “So far, 3,24,583 farmers from 5,786 villages have reported damage over 19,22,617 acres,” he said.

Saini added that in the event of flood-related deaths, an immediate assistance of Rs 4 lakh is provided to the bereaved family. Compensation for other damages has also been fixed. “In the past ten and a half years, Rs 15,500 crore has been paid to farmers for crop losses,” he noted.

He urged all state government officers and employees to contribute voluntarily to the Haryana Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to aid flood victims.
