Haryana suspends internet in Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Aug 19 — The Haryana Government has suspended mobile internet services, bulk SMS (except for banking and recharge), and all dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts until 11 a.m. on August 21, citing law and order concerns.

The order, issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra, followed reports from ADGP/CID Haryana and the Deputy Commissioners of both districts. Authorities expressed fears that inflammatory messages, rumours and misinformation on social media could spark agitation, violence, arson or vandalism.

The curbs come against the backdrop of heightened tension in Bhiwani over the death of schoolteacher Manisha, whose body was recovered from a canal near Singhani village on August 13. Police registered a murder case but also indicated the possibility of suicide.

The protests have intensified as the victim’s family continues to demand justice and has yet to perform the last rites. The administration has been holding talks with the family to resolve the standoff.
