MAHENDERGARH, Aug 4 – A 19-year-old girl from a village in Mahendergarh district died by suicide after allegedly scoring poorly in the Common Eligibility Test (CET) for Class 3 government jobs and failing to get admission to a government MBBS course, police said on Sunday.
According to her family, she had recently taken the CET exam and scored just 46 marks, leaving her disheartened. Earlier, she had also scored 470 marks in NEET, but was unable to secure a seat in a government medical college, adding to her distress.
On Saturday, while at home, the girl reportedly consumed a poisonous substance. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital and then referred to the civil hospital in Narnaul, where she died during treatment.
“She was pursuing BSc (first year) but remained deeply upset due to the results of her competitive exams,” a family member said.
Mahendergarh police said the body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
The incident comes a day after a 15-year-old Class 10 student from Rewari also died by suicide. Police are examining his mobile records to determine the cause, said investigating officer Manish Kumar.
