CHAMOLI, 23 June — A 36-year-old woman pilgrim from Haryana was killed and her husband and daughter injured when a landslide struck their car near Patalganga, between Joshimath and Pipalkoti, on the Badrinath national highway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Shilpa, a resident of Fatehabad, Haryana. She died on the spot after the vehicle was hit by falling debris, according to District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari.
Her husband, Ankit (40), and their 10-year-old daughter, Khwahish, sustained injuries and were immediately taken to Pipalkoti for medical treatment.
Police personnel and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the site and launched relief and rescue operations, officials said.
The landslide also caused disruption to traffic near Pipalkoti, with large volumes of debris blocking the highway. Authorities are working to clear the road and restore vehicular movement.
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns about landslide vulnerability in the hill state during the monsoon season, with officials urging pilgrims and travellers to remain alert while journeying through affected routes.
