Chandigarh, April 03: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday granted three days of interim protection from arrest to Ronnie Singh, one of 12 police personnel accused in the alleged assault on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath in Patiala on the night of April 13-14.
Justice HS Brar allowed Singh time to approach a trial court while ordering that he not be arrested in the meantime. The detailed order is awaited.
Singh, who moved the high court on April 1, claimed in his petition that he had been falsely implicated. According to the plea, he and his team conducted a raid near Rajindra Hospital in Patiala based on intelligence about a wanted drug trafficker.
“During the operation, individuals consuming alcohol in public obstructed hospital access. When asked to clear the passage, they reacted aggressively, assaulted me, and caused a public nuisance,” the petition stated, alleging that Colonel Bath and his son were among them. Singh further claimed that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts support his version of events.
He also described himself as a victim of a “misleading” social media campaign.
Meanwhile, the high court is set to hear Colonel Bath’s petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe on Thursday.
