Head granthi facing action over unsubstantiated claims

SGPC president demands proof or apology within three days

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, Feb 20: Giani Ragbir Singh must provide documented evidence for his claims of corruption against the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the Badal family by the end of a 72-hour period. This ultimatum was finalized by the SGPC executive following a review of recent statements that the body describes as defamatory and lacking in factual merit.

President Harjinder Singh Dhami noted that the institution’s integrity is at stake when such serious charges are leveled without proof. He stated that the head granthi of Darbar Sahib will face disciplinary measures if the evidence is not submitted to the executive within the next three days.

The meeting also served as a platform for the SGPC to refute claims made by former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh regarding land transactions in Mohali and Ropar. The former Jathedar had raised questions about the management of funds related to the GMADA scheme at Gurdwara Sri Amb Sahib and the sale of properties belonging to Gurdwara Sri Bhatha Sahib.

“The claims regarding the land in Mohali and Ropar are entirely without foundation,” Dhami asserted. He declared that the SGPC expects a public retraction of these statements and remains ready to pursue legal avenues through defamation suits to protect the organization’s standing.

In a broader context of Sikh affairs, the committee voiced its strong disapproval of the recent denial of Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar’s release. The executive described the rejection of the plea as a biased stance against the community. On the global front, the SGPC expressed its solidarity with a Sikh man attacked in Australia, urging central authorities to coordinate with international counterparts for a swift response.
