by TheReportingTimes

SHIMLA, July 13 — Himachal Pradesh is bracing for a fresh spell of intense rainfall as the state’s meteorological department has issued an orange alert for Kangra and Sirmour districts for July 14, warning of very heavy to heavy rain in isolated areas. A yellow alert has also been issued for Shimla, Mandi, and Solan districts, indicating the possibility of a few heavy rain spells.

The alert comes amid forecasts of continued monsoon activity in the region. “Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places across the state till July 19, with one or two spells of very heavy to heavy rain expected at isolated locations from July 15 to 17,” the Met Department said in its latest bulletin.

Warnings extend beyond Sunday, with yellow alerts in place across several districts from July 15 to 17. As weather conditions shift, both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to dip. Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 3°C to 4°C, while minimums may drop by 2°C to 3°C over the next three to four days.

Although monsoon activity remained weak in the past 24 hours, many areas received light to moderate rainfall. Maximum temperatures ranged between 19°C and 35°C, while minimum temperatures were recorded between 11°C and 27°C.

Shimla registered a maximum of 23.4°C, Dharamsala 29°C, and Manali 24.2°C. Other key readings included Solan (28°C), Mandi (32.2°C), Kangra (30.8°C), and Una (34°C). The hottest location in the state was Dhaulakuan in Sirmour, with 34.5°C, while Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recorded the lowest temperature at 11°C.

The India Meteorological Department has advised residents and tourists to stay alert and avoid travel in vulnerable areas, particularly in hill districts prone to landslides and flash floods. Local authorities have also been put on standby for possible emergency responses as the state enters a period of heightened weather volatility.
