Heavy Rains to Lash Himachal Till August 1

Shimla, July 26 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Himachal Pradesh till August 1, with multiple alerts issued for heavy to very heavy rain in several districts.

A yellow warning for July 27 has been issued for Kangra, Una and Sirmaur, cautioning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated pockets. The alert extends to Shimla, Mandi, Una, Kangra, Hamirpur and Sirmaur for July 28.

For July 29, an orange alert has been sounded for Mandi, Kangra, Chamba and Kullu, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the MeT Department, light to moderate rainfall is likely to persist statewide till August 1, with a few spells of intense rain between July 27 and 30. Day temperatures are expected to drop by 2°C to 3°C over the next few days, while night temperatures will remain near normal.

Monsoon activity was weak in the past 24 hours with light to moderate rainfall in isolated places. Palampur received the highest rainfall at 33 mm, followed by Mandi (26.4 mm), Kangra (21.2 mm), and Paonta Sahib (20.8 mm).

Maximum temperatures: Una remained the hottest at 36.8°C, followed by Bilaspur (35.8°C), Sundernagar (34.7°C), and Hamirpur (33.2°C). Shimla recorded 26°C, while Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest spot with a minimum of 12.9°C.

Authorities have advised caution in landslide- and flood-prone regions and urged residents and tourists to stay updated with local advisories.
