Chandigarh, Jan 29: A major security operation has led to the capture of two men responsible for an explosion in Himachal Pradesh, as Punjab Police continues its crackdown on cross-border terror activities. The suspects, Shemsher Singh and Pradeep Singh, are accused of executing the IED blast at Nalagarh Police Station. Investigators have linked the pair to Harwinder Rinda, an operative for the banned group Babbar Khalsa International, who is reportedly backed by the ISI.
The successful apprehension of the duo was the result of a collaborative effort between Punjab Police, central intelligence agencies, and Himachal Pradesh law enforcement. Security teams recovered an active IED from the suspects, which has since been secured. The operation is seen as a major step in curbing the influence of foreign-based handlers who seek to recruit local youth for subversive activities.
The Punjab DGP said that the intelligence-based operation has been conducted in close coordination with Himachal Police and central agencies. He also noted that the department continues its proactive stance against those attempting to disturb the law and order of the state.
Authorities have tightened surveillance in border areas following the arrests. The DGP mentioned that the primary goal is to neutralize any remaining fragments of the module to maintain public safety. “Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling terror networks and ensuring peace and security,” he said during the official briefing on the arrests.
