Chandigarh, April 18: A 35-year-old man from Himachal Pradesh was fatally stabbed during a robbery near the Sector 43 bus stop in Chandigarh on Wednesday evening. Police identified the victim as Kaku, a resident of Kog village in Theog tehsil, Shimla district. He had travelled to the city to visit his sister, who lives in Sector 44.
Kaku was reportedly attacked around 7 p.m. while on his way to meet a friend. He was found unconscious behind the bus stand and rushed to the Government Medical Super-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Within 12 hours, police detained two juveniles accused in the murder. The breakthrough came through a combination of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, according to UT SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, who oversaw the investigation led by SP (City) Geetanjali Khandelwal and ASP (South-West) Anurag Daru.
“The two juveniles were traced to the forest area in Sector 53. They confessed to confronting the victim with the intent to rob him. When he resisted, they stabbed him,” said a police official.
Police recovered the knife used in the assault and Kaku’s stolen mobile phone from the accused.
Sources said Kaku was carrying only Rs 180 and a mobile phone at the time. A murder case has been registered at the Sector 36 police station, and officials confirmed that both juveniles will face legal proceedings under applicable sections.
