Yamunanagar, July 31: A 25-year-old history-sheeter affiliated with the Kala Rana-Noni Rana gang was shot dead in an encounter with Yamunanagar police near Ratouli Road in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Bhim alias Arjun, was a native of Ayodhya and had been residing in Azad Nagar, Yamunanagar. Police said he was a prime accused in extortion-linked double firing incidents on July 14 in the ITI area and Sarojini Colony Phase-1, where prominent city merchants were targeted.
Police had earlier announced a ₹20,000 reward on him. Investigators revealed he had allegedly demanded ₹5.5 crore from two businessmen via phone calls.
Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal said, “We received a tip-off that Bhim was roaming the area armed. A police team tracked him, and when asked to surrender, he opened fire. Our personnel, wearing bulletproof jackets, retaliated. He was injured in the crossfire.”
Bhim was rushed to the emergency wing of the district civil hospital, where he succumbed during treatment.
“He was wanted in seven cases, including attempted murder, illegal arms possession, drug offences, and was one of the shooters in the July 14 extortion firing cases,” the SP added.
His associate Aman, police said, was recently injured and caught in an encounter near Mullana by Ambala police.
This is the second fatal encounter involving a hitman of the Noni Rana gang in recent weeks. Last month, Romil Vohra (20), a Yamunanagar native and alleged shooter, was killed in Delhi by a joint team of Haryana STF and Delhi Police.
