Chandigarh, Feb 24: Opposition leaders in Haryana staged a high-profile demonstration at the Vidhan Sabha today, alleging widespread corruption and systemic failures within the state government. The march, headed by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, served as a platform for the Congress party to challenge the BJP’s governance on issues ranging from welfare distribution to public security.
During a sit-in organized on the Assembly grounds, the MLAs maintained that the current administration has failed to protect the interests of the local workforce. They asserted that while unemployment figures remain high, the government is prioritizing outsiders for available positions. The protest also focused on the removal of names from social security and BPL lists, which the opposition declared was a disservice to the state’s most vulnerable residents.
The legislative group specifically noted the deteriorating security situation in the state. They affirmed that the rise in extortion incidents and the general breakdown of law and order have created an atmosphere of fear. Furthermore, the members stated that the education system and the sports community are being neglected under present policies.
“The MLAs raised issues such as the alleged falling standards of education and exclusion from the Lado Lakshmi Yojna,” the party noted, while also emphasizing their support for sportspersons who feel marginalized by the current regime.
The protest is expected to intensify tomorrow as the party prepares to gherao the Assembly. This next phase of the demonstration will specifically focus on recent modifications made to the MGNREGA program, which the opposition asserts will negatively impact rural livelihoods across Haryana.
