Shimla, September 11 — Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has extended the deadline for undergraduate and Prak Shastri admissions for the 2025–26 academic session, giving students another chance to enroll in affiliated colleges.
The decision was cleared by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahavir Singh and announced on Thursday through an official notification. The extension applies to both government and non-government institutions under the university’s fold.
University officials said the step was taken after multiple appeals from college principals and direct requests from students who had missed the earlier cut-off date. “Several students could not complete their admission formalities due to unavoidable circumstances. It was important to provide them with another opportunity,” a senior HPU official noted.
Authorities emphasized that while the deadline has been pushed forward, the admission process will continue to be governed strictly by the rules and procedures already in place. “All enrollments will be carried out in line with the college prospectus, university ordinances, and the guidelines issued from time to time,” the university clarified in its notification.
The administration stressed that the extension was not a relaxation of norms but rather a measure to ensure that deserving students are not left out. College heads had pointed out that many applicants were struggling to meet the earlier timeline, particularly those from remote areas or dealing with personal constraints.
The Vice-Chancellor, while approving the move, mentioned that the university remains committed to balancing academic discipline with student welfare. “We want to ensure that every eligible candidate gets fair access to higher education without compromising the integrity of the admission process,” Prof. Singh said.
The fresh window is expected to bring relief to hundreds of aspirants who were unable to secure a seat during the first round. Officials said colleges will issue updated admission schedules in accordance with the university’s directives.
With this extension, HPU has signaled its intent to be flexible when genuine concerns arise, while at the same time reaffirming its adherence to established norms. The decision has been welcomed by students and faculty members, who see it as a supportive step at the beginning of the academic year.
