The destruction was carried out at a state-of-the-art incinerator at the Hygiene Factory in Baghwala, under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Shivas Kaviraj and Deputy Commissioner of Police Srishti Gupta. Officials confirmed that the incinerated substances were seized in 48 registered cases over a period of time.
According to police, the drugs destroyed included:
- 10.288 kg of ganja
- 42.195 kg of poppy husk
- 870 gm of opium
- 1.171 kg of charas
- 178 gm of heroin
- Approximately 4,240 intoxicating tablets and capsules
The estimated total street value of these narcotics was pegged at ₹1,53,29,570, police officials said.
“This operation sends a strong message against drug trafficking and underlines our zero-tolerance policy,” said CP Shivas Kaviraj, who chaired the drug disposal committee overseeing the process. He added that court permission was obtained before carrying out the incineration, and that all procedures were followed transparently as per the NDPS Act.
DCP Srishti Gupta, ACP Vikram Nehra, Inspector Sukhbir Singh (SHO of Raipur Rani police station), and other officials were present during the operation to ensure procedural compliance and maintain chain-of-custody integrity.
The police said regular disposal of seized contraband not only ensures environmental safety but also removes the possibility of recovered drugs re-entering circulation through illegal channels.
