NEW DELHI, Jan. 1 — India and Pakistan on Thursday exchanged lists of nuclear installations as part of a bilateral agreement prohibiting attacks on each other’s atomic facilities, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The move, conducted simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad, marks the 35th consecutive year of the annual exchange.
Signed in 1988 and enforced in 1991, the agreement requires both sides to share lists of nuclear sites covered under the pact at the start of every calendar year. The first exchange under the pact took place on January 1, 1992.
“This annual list exchange is part of long-standing measures to maintain transparency and prevent attacks on nuclear installations,” the MEA said in a statement.
